Peoria Ambulatory Surgery Center

(PASC)

So, your doctor has informed you that you need to have surgery.  This can be an unsettling thought for anyone in that situation.  First of all, there is fear of pain and also fear of the unknown.  As with childbirth, everyone has heard surgery horror stories.

Photo by Soderstrom Dermatology Center, S.C.Today, you and your doctor have many choices regarding your surgical experience. If you and your doctor decide that outpatient surgery in the ambulatory setting is an appropriate option for you, then Congratulations!

At Peoria Ambulatory Surgery Center, we make every attempt to make you feel as comfortable and secure as possible.  Parking is free and conveniently located on the same level as the clinic.

Your experience will begin after your surgery has been scheduled at our facility. Our pre-op teacher will call you to ask for a complete medical history and medication information.  General health, heart trouble, high blood pressure, diabetes, and thyroid conditions should all be taken into consideration before your surgery.  All surgical procedures carry the possibility of risk and uncertainty.  Among those include infection, bleeding, blood clots, scarring, pigment variations, allergic reactions, and adverse reactions to anesthesia.  You and your doctor will carefully, and thoughtfully, discuss your goals and expectations.  Complete discussion of all of these issues, and discussing and answering your questions are a very important part of you consultation, treatment, or surgery.

After you arrive you may be seated in our comfortable lobby area and one of our nurses will admit you to our Surgery Center.  She will confirm the procedure that you are having with you and your family and, as with cataract surgery, she will mark the correct eye being done for your reassurance and ours.  She will allow your family to stay with you as long as possible and answer any questions that you or your family may have.

Next, you will be taken into our preoperative area where you will be made as comfortable as possible. Your nurse will introduce herself and begin to prepare you for your procedure.  This may be as simple as taking your blood pressure, or may include administration of medications, or starting an IV.  Your anesthesia provider will visit you while you wait, and will also answer any questions you may have about your surgery.  During your procedure, your comfort is our #1 priority.  Your operating room nurse, doctor, and anesthesia provider will be right there on hand to ensure as pleasant an experience as possible.

You will then be taken to our recovery area.  Very shortly after cataract surgery, for example, you will be assisted into a recliner and given a light meal and a beverage. Your discomfort will be assessed and your vital signs monitored.  When you are ready to leave, discharge instructions will be provided to you and your family.  You will be provided with information on all aspects of your home care, as well as whom to contact should you have a problem or a question.

The day after surgery, one of our nurses will call to ask you how you are feeling. She will assist you if you have questions about your care or your experience at our facility.  If you need assistance regarding billing or insurance information, she will direct you to our Patient Relations Specialist.

At the Peoria Ambulatory Surgery Center, we strive to make your surgical experience thorough, effective, efficient, and pleasant.  We are completely Medicare approved and accredited by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care, Inc.  In addition, our facility has two Certified Administrator Surgery Center recipients. Our Nurse Manager and our Director of Surgical Services both have this certification which demonstrates our achievements and drive towards continuing education and quality patient care.
